Student Guardian visa (subclass 590)
The Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) allows a parent, legal guardian, or eligible relative to stay in Australia to care for an international student under 18 while they study.
It may allow you to:
- Live in Australia during the student’s study period.
- Provide accommodation and welfare support.
- Travel in and out of Australia while the visa is valid.
Important notes:
- Work is generally not permitted on this visa.
- Limited study may be allowed (usually up to 3 months), subject to conditions.

- Proof of relationship.
- Financial capacity.
- Suitable welfare/accommodation arrangements.
- Health insurance, plus health & character checks.
